In a City Full of Futures, Be a JonRay

JonRay celebrates his birthday with “So Thick”—and another reminder of why his personality keeps me watching.

Today is JonRay’s birthday, and he dropped “So Thick.”

Do I like it? Yes. What keeps bringing me back is the way he tells his story his way. Across different videos and production styles, his personality comes through. The humor, the delivery, the way he plays out a scene—it feels like JonRay.

Directed by Fella Fellz, the new video opens with a bar-counter bit with “something thick” from Augies. “I thought you like thick shit,” she says. JonRay replies, “Let me see.” Then the song starts. It’s playful, raunchy, and consistent with the personality I enjoy watching.

I happened to be at Game Time when they shot the video. I was off-camera, having drinks with my people, and got a Bop Punch from JonRay’s manager, Mista Maeham, while I was there.

His humor can be misogynistic. I recognize that, and my own history and background shape why parts of it still make me laugh. That’s my reaction to the material.

What stands out across his videos is how whoever is behind the camera still captures his personality. He gives them something to work with, and the finished videos keep me entertained.

When I say, “In a city full of Futures, be a JonRay,” I mean giving people something recognizably yours. His storytelling, sexual humor, and willingness to play the joke make his videos recognizable to me.

JonRay continues to put on for the Twin Cities by telling his story his way. I enjoy watching it.

Happy birthday, JonRay. You’ve got another one on your hands.
